The Tharston History Society commemorated the end of WW1 at 7pm on 11th November.

Tharston History Society were part of Battle's Over on November 11th 2018, a Worldwide event commemorating 100 years since the end of WWI.

Tharston History Society played its part in Battle's Over, an international commemoration marking 100 years since the guns fell silent at the end of World War I.

Nationally organised by Pageantmaster Bruno Peek LVO OBE OPR, Battle's Over took place on Sunday November 11th 2018, with events throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, the Isle of Man, and at scores of locations overseas, including New Zealand, Ireland, Australia, Bermuda, France, Belgium, Canada, the United States and Germany, to name but a few.

A short commemoration was held at St.Marys Church, Tharston. It commenced at 6.45pm with a reading by Anthony Thwaite of a "Tribute to the Millions" followed by reading the names of those residents of Tharston who lost their lives during the war.

At 6.55pm a bugler sounded the Last Post. This is being duplicated at more than 1,000 locations around the UK.

At 7pm a beacon was lit in a tribute called Beacons of Light, signifying the light of peace that emerged from the darkness of four years of war.

At 7.05pm the church bells were rung as part of Ringing Out for Peace organised in association with the Central Council of Church Bell Ringers, which represents 65 societies of ringers from the British Isles and overseas.

The History Society then invited those attending for tea/coffee, inside the church.
